Certificates and Documents

OBJECTIVE
  • To develop the pilot’s skill in determining basic paperwork requirements for pilot and aircraft.

ELEMENTS
  • The training requirements for the solo endorsement 
  • The training requirements for the solo cross-country endorsement 
  • The training requirements for the issuance of a private pilot certificate 
  • The privileges and limitations of pilot certificates and ratings at pilot and private levels 
  • Class and duration of medical certificates 
  • Recent pilot flight experience requirements 
  • Required entries in pilot logbook or flight record 

COMPLETION STANDARDS
  • Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to certificates and documents by explaining: 
  • Private pilot certificate privileges, limitations, and recent flight experience requirements 
  • Medical certificate class and duration 
  • Pilot logbook or flight records 
  • Locating and explaining: 
  • Airworthiness and registration certificates 
  • Operating limitations, placards, instrument markings, and POH/AFM 
  • Weight and balance data and equipment list 

COMMON ERRORS
  • Removing required paperwork from aircraft 
  • Lack of knowledge about required Aircraft POH/AFM supplements 
  • Determining aircraft is airworthy with missing papers from Aircraft POH/AFM 
  • ‘Forgetting’ medical or pilot currency requirements 

THINGS TO REMEMBER
  • Schedule reminders about solo endorsement expiration, flight review requirement, medical expiration date, and other currency requirements in pilot’s scheduling system. (PDA/Dayplanner) 
  • Placards are required.
